PCAG Mission Statement

Meeting Details - Archives

In April 2003, the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) took the very important step of creating a Perchlorate Community Advisory Group (PCAG).

Monthly meetings are held at the San Martin Lions Club Hall at 12415 Murphy Avenue.  Please check the SMNA Website calendar for the correct date and time as they are not the same each month. We encourage each of you to attend when possible. Community input is the primary aspect of this process.

The mission of PCAG is to advise the RWQCB (the regulatory agency) regarding appropriate actions and timelines that are designed to find timely solutions to the Perchlorate contamination issue. We will make recommendations regarding immediate, interim and long-term clean-up solutions and will also address effects on humans, animals and produce.

Committee members are from San Martin, as well as, Morgan Hill and Gilroy. We have members that represent various groups and expertise such as -- farming, ranching, medical, real estate, chemist, geologist, equestrian, veterinary, San Martin Planning Advisory Committee, San Martin Neighborhood Alliance, Lions Club and members with prior contamination committee work.

County, State and Federal elected staff representatives participate on this committee and have vowed to provide support in any way possible. We also are receiving valuable technical assistance from the RWQCB, SCVWD, County Health, County Agriculture, County Farm Bureau, West San Martin Water Company, San Martin Water District and a research team from Oregon State University.

As committee Chair, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the numerous people who, during the last few months, have dedicated so much time, energy and money to this issue.  I have found everyone in the involved Agencies to be very responsive. They actually listen and act on suggestions from community.  I am also pleased by the fact that all of our State and Federal elected representatives have initiated contact with us and have vowed to use whatever influence they have to support our efforts. The community has also had tremendous support from environmental groups such as the Environmental Working Group and the Center for Public Environmental Oversight.

We must be part of the solution. Our community is packed full of creative problem-solvers. Lets all work together to find viable, timely solutions.
